Meet the Farmers...
Kendel Wynne
Kendel grew up a few counties away from the town of Burkeville. She was raised by grandparents who instilled her a love of and appreciation for hard work. She spent most of her childhood working at a local horse farm where she developed a strong passion for horses, specifically draft horses. Later on, guerrilla gardening and the writings of Wendell Berry led her to visions of growing food and community while incorporating horses as a way of good land use. After much longing for a place to plant roots, she landed in Burkeville, Va. Since she has made a home that, with friends and family, feed and foster community. Emily Olson A native to Baltimore, Emily's passion for good food and local agriculture brought her to Whippoorwill Farm. Emily stays busy working double duty, both on the farm and as a full time equine veterinarian. When she isn't busy being "Dr. Olson" you can probably find her washing eggs, bottle feeding goats, or snuggling with her pups. Donny Schutt Donny was born, raised, and still lives on the land where Whippoorwill Farm calls home. He has been friend, mentor, and fellow worker to the farm where his skills and knowledge of the place are immeasurable. When not helping us with a project or in the garden, he enjoys hunting and riding his horse Kate. |
